CanoScan 9000F - What are you looking for in a business or home scanner? Do you want speed, ease of use, or high quality? Who says you have to give up on any of these things? Sure, in the past you had to settle for one or two of the options you wanted. But technology has come a long way and with the scanners you find on the market today, you don't have to settle. The CanoScan 9000F is a prime example of that.
CanoScan 9000F Features
When I first started researching the CanoScan 9000F, I remembered my first scanner. It was bulky, heavy and not at all easy to use! Not to mention the scans I was able to produce were not the highest quality. Sure, I still had the image that I wanted to save or share, but it wasn't something that I felt matched the quality of the original.
With the CanoScan 9000F, you will not have any of these frustrations. This flatbed scanner is so easy to use! First of all there is no warm up time at all with the CanoScan 9000F. The LED light comes on instantly when you turn it on. Plus, since the light doesn't remain on after you are done scanning this scanner meets Energy Star guidelines for energy usage. As a result, it isn't a drain on your power bill!
As I have explored the CanoScan 9000F and read reviews from real users, it is apparent that this scanner is a good all purpose scanner. That being said, many consumers have purchased it because it is a great negative and film scanner. This scanner has a built in film scanner that will scan up to 12 frames of 35mm film at one time - both positives and negatives. In addition, it has the ability to scan four slide frames at one time. One of the features that people like is the fact that the CanoScan 9000F automatically sets the edge boundaries around each film frame and crops each one individually. That way you don't have to scan an entire strip of negatives and then go back and crop out each frame individually.
The CanoScan 9000F will also automatically adjust and correct your photos and documents as it scans. With FARE 3 technology, the CanoScan 9000F will make lighting and contrast corrections, dust and scratch removal, and auto color correction. This technology is so good that many consumers don't feel they need to do any other correction after scanning. The CanoScan 9000F does come with PhotoShop Elements just in case you want to do any further editing. PhotoShop Elements is a great bonus. The program alone is worth about $90 if you buy it separately.
The CanoScan 9000F has seven EZ buttons across the front that allow you to scan most items with just the touch of a button.
The buttons include:
- Auto Scan - this is the option you will probably use most of the time. The scanner has the ability to recognize what type of media you are scanning and it will automatically adjust all the settings so you will get a perfect scan every time. Of the many consumers who have used the CanoScan 9000F, this one of the features they like the best. You don't have to try and decide what type of file you want your scan to be, because the scanner decides for you. The CanoScan 9000F will then scan, crop and save your scan in the appropriate file - all with the touch of a button.
- Copy - this button does exactly what it says. It copies picture or document and then sends it to your printer. So, basically this stand alone scanner can act as a multifunction machine as well.
- Email - you can quickly scan a document or picture and the CanoScan 9000F will resize it to the optimum size for sending in an email.
There are also 4 PDF buttons -
- The first PDF button is for scanning a document in color. When the CanoScann 9000F scans color documents it uses Auto Document Fix. This technology will remove or reduce document bleed through. Personally I like this feature because I scan a lot of newspaper articles and it seems you always get bleed through from the other side of the paper, which is very distracting. Being able to remove the bleed through is a plus in my book. In addition to removing the bleed through, the CanoScan 9000F will also sharpen text and smooth the dots in pictures while still maintaining tone and contrast. The CanoScan 9000F will save the images as color PDF files in A4 size and 300 dpi. This is the default, you can change it if you need to.
- The next PDF button is for scanning black and white documents. You get the same features as the color button, but the document will be saved as a black and white PDF file at 300 dpi and A4 size.
- You also have a custom PDF button. Use this button if you want to make specific changes to the way you want to scan documents.
- The last button is the finish scan button. When you press this button the CanoScan 9000F will finish the scan job and save the files.
When you scan PDF documents with the CanoScan 9000F a dialog box will pop up on your computer. You can either use the the dialog box or the buttons. Both will allow you to chose if you want to scan another document or finish the job. However, many people find the dialog box more annoying than helpful, so you can just click the 'Do not display this message again' box and it will go away.
The bottom line on the CanoScan 9000F - it is a great scanner for the money. In fact, it is a great value for the money. The CanoScan 9000F will do a lot of things that high end scanners will do without the cost. The fact that it is ready to scan in an instant is a big plus, as well as the bleed removal for document scanning. Not to mention the automatic cropping of negative strips - this feature alone is major if you have a lot of negatives that need to be scanned because you are eliminating the need for further editing.
